Internship—The Final Week!

* For this week's entry, make sure you include at least two photos! 

Choose two of the following:

1. Describe what you are most thankful for in your internship experience—what experiences, what people, and so on? What new appreciations have you gained through internship and how did you develop these?

2. Describe your reflections on your internship project—what went well, what would you do differently, and what stands out to you?

3. How might you continue your internship experiences beyond the scope of the HTHMA internship? What ideas, skills, connections and so on will you bring back to the rest of your life? Will you continue working with your internship beyond January of 2011?

4. Write a Thank You note to your mentor, highlighting specific learning experiences, achievements, personal growth, etc., that occurred during your internship. 

5.  What advice would you pass on to future interns? What are the most important skills for a student to be successful at his/her internship? How could another student develop these skills prior to beginning internship? 

6. Describe your POL preparation process. What presentation tools are you planning to use? Are you relying on notes, a memorized talk, something else? How are you preparing for questions you might be asked? 

7. How do you feel about returning back to classes next week? Do you anticipate a different experience of school now that you have been immersed in a work place? What are you looking forward to about coming  back? What are you going to miss about internship?

8. In what ways has your internship inspired you to think about college?  Have you discovered new colleges that you are interested in attending?  Have you learned about new courses to study or majors to pursue?

9. How do you see yourself making decisions about your own life beyond HTHMA? Do you see yourself following a life similar to anyone you met at internship? Why or why not?

Internship 2015—Week #3

Choose three of the following & post a thoughtful response on your blog. You may do them at any point during the week, but make sure both are done by the end of the day on Friday.

For at least two of your posts this week, make sure that you include photos.

1. Choose your favorite photos from your photo essay—post these highlight photos and a caption explaining what we see and what makes this significant to you.

2. Post the highlights from your mentor interview and explain what makes these quotes meaningful to you.

3. You are probably more than half-way through your project. How is it going? What challenges have you faced? What have you learned? What are you doing to ensure a successful completion of your internship project.

4. Read another student's blog. What stands out to you? What experiences do you have in common? What contrasts do you see? What questions do you have?

5. Who benefits from the work that you do at internship? How and/or why?

6. What are you thankful for in your internship experience?

7. Do you have any regrets so far?  What would you do differently if you could start internship over?

8. What are social interactions like in your workplace? Do people spend a lot of time socializing? Are people isolated, doing their own things? Lots of collaboration on work projects? Not much collaboration? How does the social dynamic impact or reflect the organization's work?

9. Describe how experiences at HTHMA have prepared you for your experience at internship.

10. Describe one challenge that arose this week at your internship site (related to the work the company does).  How did your mentor and their colleagues solve this problem? 

Internship 2015—The first full week!

Internship Week #2

Choose three of the following & post a thoughtful response on your blog. Please do them throughout the week, and make sure all three are done by 11:59:59 pm on Thursday, 1/16/14—that's the night before you come to school for your internship seminar.

For at least two of your three posts this week, make sure that you include a photo.

1. What is the biggest challenge face at your internship?

2. How do you see yourself growing or changing over the course of your internship?

3. How has or do you see your internship changing the way you consider that paths your future will take?

4. What limitations have you recognized in yourself that you want to overcome during internship, or use this internship experience to help you overcome?

5. How do you see your role developing at your internship?

6. What lessons or experiences at you internship will you bring back to school to help you to further improve in your academics?

7. What has surprised you most while working at your internship?

8. Choose a past question that you did not use last week and answer it (and include a picture!).

Internship 2015—Week #1

Welcome to the first week of internship!

Choose two of the following & post a thoughtful response on your blog. You may do them at any point during the week, but make sure both are done by 11:59:59 pm on Friday, 1/10/14.

Each week, you will be asked to complete blog entries, so please keep your blog up to date.

Blog choices for Internship week #1 (please choose at least two):

1. Choose an employee in your company and after a conversation with him or her, describe his/her education, overall career path and current job description. Don't forget to post a picture of you with your new coworker!

2. Describe the project you'll do at internship, including the skills and technology you need to do it and what you hope your project looks like as a final product.

3. Who is your mentor? Describe his or her life, education, career path and more. Don't forget to post a picture of you with your mentor!

4. Describe the culture at your internship, including how people interact, communicate and work together.

5. What are you most surprised by during your first week of internship and why? Post an image that shows what surprises you.

6. What goods and/or services does your company provide to the community and how do they consider their role in the community, responsibilities to society? Post an image that shows something your company contributes or an image that shows the effects of the work your company does.

7. What is your company's mission statement (and if they don't have one, write it!), and how do you see it in their work?

Welcome to the first week of internship!

In a preliminary post, please describe your hopes, dreams and fears for internship. Please make sure that your blog entry covers all three. Along the way, please consider your job description, your project, your coworkers, your internship site, your overall experience and how it could fit into your education, your life or your family.
